Services We Offer
A bathroom we built on this island
A navy vanity, a walk-in shower tiled in blue-and-white marble-look stone with a wavy accent running through it, and fittings chosen on the assumption that the ocean is a few hundred yards away. It is in the photographs below. Coastal does not have to mean pale and nautical, and this one is a good argument for color.
The work we do on this island
Bathroom renovations and kitchen remodeling in full, including the plumbing and electrical underneath them. Holiday Kitchens cabinetry, countertops templated to the installed cabinets, tile and proper waterproofing, lighting, interior work anywhere in the house, and handyman jobs when that is all that is wanted.
A barrier island is a specification, not a view
Ocean Ridge sits on a strip of sand between the Intracoastal and the Atlantic, and that setting decides the materials list before anyone has discussed a style. Salt reaches everything here. Hardware that would last fifteen years inland will pit and streak in two or three. So: stainless and solid brass rather than plated finishes, stone that is properly sealed and re-sealed, cabinet interiors and finishes that tolerate humidity, and extraction that actually moves air rather than redistributing it.
The town issues its own building permits, which surprises people who assume a place this small defers to the county. We make the application.
Getting a crew and a kitchen onto the island
Practical rather than glamorous, and it is where schedules slip if nobody thinks about it. Access is limited, deliveries need planning, and the waterfront enclaves – Pelican Cove, Ocean Harbour Estates, Colonial Ridge Club among them – add their own arrangements on top. We would rather work that out before signing than explain it afterwards.
How a job here actually runs
1. A free consultation at the house, with real measurements rather than estimates from a doorway. 2. A design and a 3D rendering, revised with you until it is right. Nothing is ordered until you approve it. 3. A fixed written quotation and a schedule, from the owner who will be running the job. 4. The work: contained, tidied daily, with photographs if you are not in residence. 5. A walk-through, a punch list completed, and a five-year written warranty on the workmanship.
If you are only here for part of the year
Then the sensible time to do this is while you are not. Choose everything before you leave, hand over a key, receive photographs as it goes, and come back to a finished room. It is how a large share of our year is spent, and on this island it also avoids doing the noisy work in season.
Questions we get on the island
Will a marble-look porcelain hold up better than actual marble?
On a barrier island, usually yes, and it is not a compromise any more. Porcelain will not etch when a bottle of sun cream leaks on it, and the good ranges are convincing. We will show you both and let you decide with the samples in your hand.
Something is corroding behind the shower wall. Is that normal here?
It is common and it is worth taking seriously. Salt air plus a wet area that was not waterproofed properly is the standard cause. The fix is rebuilding the wet area correctly, not patching the symptom, and we will show you what is behind the tile before quoting.
Can you work with the town on a house this close to the water?
Yes. We deal with the town’s building department as a matter of course and we would rather establish what is permissible at the quotation stage than discover a constraint mid-job.
