Florida State Certified Residential Contractor

“Licensed contractor” gets thrown around a lot. Here’s what it actually means in Florida — and why it should matter to you before anyone touches your home.

Licensed Florida State Certified Residential Contractor (CRC1332966) · 30+ years of remodeling experience · Five-year written workmanship warranty

What “certified” actually means

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) licenses and regulates the construction trades statewide. A Certified Residential Contractor holds a state-issued license valid in every Florida county — earned through examinations, verified experience, and financial and background checks. Topnotch Remodeling holds certified license CRC1332966.

What it takes to earn the license

  • Exams. Proctored state certification exams in contract administration, project management, and business & finance.
  • Proven experience. Documented years as a worker and foreman (or a construction degree plus field experience), covering structural work — foundations and slabs, masonry, trusses, structural framing, and more.
  • Financial responsibility. Credit reports with FICO scores, plus records checked at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Fingerprints and a background check. Part of every application.
  • Insurance. Public liability, property damage, and workers’ compensation coverage.

Why it matters when you hire

An unlicensed “contractor” can leave you with unpermitted work, no insurance behind an accident in your home, and no board to answer to. A certified contractor puts a state license on the line with every job. That’s the accountability you want holding the saw.
